Mandy Moore The Next Big Disney Star?

Mandy Moore The Next Big Disney Star?

Amanda Leigh “Mandy” Moore (born April 10, 1984) is an American singer-songwriter, actress and fashion designer. She grew up in Florida. Moore became famous as a teenager in the late 1990s, after the release of her teen-oriented pop albums So Real, I Wanna Be with You, and Mandy Moore.

Moore subsequently branched out into a film career, starring in 2002’s A Walk to Remember and later appearing in the lead roles of other movies, such as Chasing Liberty, also aimed at teenage audiences.

Two of Moore’s later films, American Dreamz and Saved!, were satires. Her private life, including her relationships with tennis player Andy Roddick[1] as well as with actors Wilmer Valderrama and Zach Braff[3] became the subject of much discussion in the media. Her most recent album as of September 2009, Amanda Leigh, was released on May 26, 2009. Mandy Moore has sold more than 10 million records worldwide.

Early life

Moore was born in Nashua, New Hampshire, the daughter of Stacy, a former news reporter whom the Orlando Sentinel had once employed, and Donald “Don” Moore, a pilot for American Airlines. Moore’s father is of Irish and Cherokee descent, and her mother is of English and Jewish ancestry. Moore, who has two brothers, Scott Moore and Kyle Moore, grew up in Longwood, Florida, outside of Orlando, where the family moved shortly after her birth because of her father’s job as an airline pilot. She was raised in the Catholic religion, even though she is no longer a practicing Catholic, and attended Bishop Moore High School, a Catholic school in Orlando, as well as Lake Brantley High School in Altamonte Springs.

Moore’s interest in singing grew after seeing the musical Oklahoma! She was also encouraged to perform by her maternal grandmother, who was her inspiration. Some of Moore’s first public exposure occurred when she sang the national anthem at several Florida sporting events. She subsequently came to the attention of the head of the artists and repertoire department at Epic Records after his friend, a FedEx employee, overheard her as she sang at a recording studio.

Personal life

Moore dated Philippines-born singer/actor Billy Crawford for a “few months” when she was younger.

Moore dated actor Wilmer Valderrama for eighteen months between 2000 and 2002. In 2006, Valderrama appeared on The Howard Stern Show and detailed that he and Moore were each other’s “first loves” although he did not claim that their relationship was sexual, as was alleged by several media sources who misquoted his remarks. Moore later referred to Valderrama as a “good guy” and a “gentleman” although she has stated that his comments about their relationship were “utterly tacky”.

Moore began dating tennis star Andy Roddick in 2002; Roddick ended the relationship in March 2004.

In November 2004, Moore began dating Scrubs actor Zach Braff. Referring to Braff, Moore said that she likes “good Jewish boy(s)… with a sense of humor”. In 2006, the two were incorrectly reported to be engaged and broke up later in 2006.

In early 2007, media reports linked Moore to Adam Goldstein, known professionally as “DJ AM” though the two were reported to have ended their relationship in March 2007.

Also in 2007, she briefly dated actor/singer Greg Laswell

Mandy Moore is set to follow in the footsteps of Miley Cyrus and Vanessa Hudgens, by becoming the next big Disney star.

Mandy has signed on to voice ‘Rapunzel’ in a new 3D animated version of the classic fairytale!

The story has been modernized a little, whereby instead of being held captive in the tower for her entire life, Rapunzel escapes and “goes on the run with a bandit as her captor pursues them”.

ChildAid: IR opening show

ChildAid: IR opening show

THE annual children’s charity concert, ChildAid, promises to be a grand affair this year as it will be the first event to be held at Resorts World at Sentosa.

ChildAid is a charity concert organised by The Straits Times and The Business Times to showcase the best of Singapore’s young musical talent and to raise funds for two charities – The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund and The Business Times Budding Artists Fund.

The Dec 19-21 concert will give Singaporeans their first peek at one of the integrated resort’s theatres; Festive Grand has 1,600 tiered seats and a 1,500sq m stage which is about the size of 3-1/2 basketball courts.

ChildAid’s organising chairman Peter Khoo said at a press conference on Tuesday: ‘We are extremely grateful to Resorts World at Sentosa for giving us this honour, which we believe will boost fund-raising efforts. The young performers will create history by being the first to perform at the resort.’

Auditions will be held to pick the performers for the ChildAid concert, which is in its fifth year. Three young talents have been confirmed so far: Amni Musfirah, 15, from the School of the Arts; eight-year-old Greenridge Primary School pupil Zidann Zalizann; and Aaron Lee, 13, of Queensway Secondary School.

Mr Khoo said the recession had led to a 40 per cent rise in the number of children who need help. The National Council of Social Service, which administers the ST School Pocket Money Fund, says the fund needs $5.7 million this year – the highest amount it has had to raise since its inception in 2000.

ChildAid has become more than a fund-raising event. It is also a launching pad for many young performers.

Amni Musfirah, together with Lian Kim Selby and Nathan Hartono, both 18 – who all performed at the Asian Youth Games’ opening ceremony last month – were ChildAid performers.

Soprano Janani Sridhar, 19, who performed at a ChildAid concert in 2005, sang the national anthem at last year’s Singapore Formula One race.

Resorts World has been a sponsor of ChildAid for the past two years.

Naturi Naughton finds a path to revamped ‘Fame’

Naturi Naughton finds a path to revamped ‘Fame’

Naturi Cora Maria Naughton (born May 20, 1984) is an American singer and actress best known for formerly being one-third of the Pop/R&B trio 3LW.

Life and career

Born and raised in East Orange, New Jersey, her musical talent first emerged at the age of 5 years old, when she joined the choir at her Baptist church. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic school for a brief period of time before being discovered. She has sung the national anthem at various events in New Jersey.

Solo career

Naughton was collaborating with producers Full Force on a solo debut album. Some of the tracks she recorded for the album are as follows: “Real Chicks” (featuring Lil’ Kim), “Stand Up”, “What You Do” and “Your Girlfriend.” However, in a recent interview with Naturi, she says that she is not currently working on an album right now, but instead focusing on her other passion, acting. With the right team and producers, she says she would definitely like to do her solo Acting career

Naughton starred in the Tony Award winning Broadway musical Hairspray as Little Inez from 2005-2008. Naturi played rapper Lil’ Kim, in Notorious, a big screen biopic on the late Notorious B.I.G. Notorious opened at #4 at the box office with over $21 million made opening weekend. Naturi has also done a commercial for Truth.com, titled “It Must’ve Been A Typo”. More recently, Naughton has signed on to play a pianist named Denise in the upcoming remake of the 1980 movie and TV show musical Fame, due out in theaters September 25, 2009.[

She doesn’t want to be known as that “chick from that girl group.” Or the actress who played Lil’ Kim.

Naturi Naughton wants you to remember her name.

And to help ensure the name recognition sticks, she’s starring in the revamped production of “Fame,” which hits theaters Sept. 25. She plays Denise, a singer-pianist whose parents disapprove of her attending the New York City High School of Performing Arts.

Sure, the 1980 Oscar-winning hit musical about gifted students with ambitions of being famous came out before Naughton was born. And the TV series it spawned ended in 1987, when she was just 3. But just because her exposure to leg warmer-clad dancers and choreographed dance sequences on the street came late (her first viewing of the original film was during the audition period), that doesn’t mean she was completely oblivious to the movie’s imprint on pop culture.

“I knew, of course, what ‘Fame’ was growing up,” she said. “How could you not? It’s iconic. And to be a part of something that has had this enduring legacy is so amazing.”

Just don’t expect a carbon copy of the ’80s dance and drama flick, Naughton cautioned. A rendition of “I Sing the Body Electric”? It’s not in this adaptation, directed by Kevin Tancharoen.

“We respect the original but we’re not trying to remake it,” Naughton said. “In 2009, we cannot have the exact same issues or dialogue or even all of the same songs because the time is different. There’s change in music. Change in politics. Change in society. It’s a reinvention, not a remake.”

Among what remains though, is the title song made famous by Irene Cara in the original box office hit. And while Naughton, a petite New Jersey native, had to take piano lessons for the role, she had the singing part well under control.

She was belting out solos with the New Hope Baptist church choir at age 5. And it wasn’t long before she was singing the national anthem at hometown events. By 15, Naughton was one-third of the pop and R&B musical trio 3LW (Three Little Women); she left the group in 2002 over conflicts with management.

She went on to pursue a degree in political science at Seton Hall University. But political theory analysis couldn’t keep pace with her desire to perform. She had a three-year stint as Little Inez in Broadway’s hit musical “Hairspray.” And she made her big-screen debut playing enigmatic rapper Lil’ Kim in the recent “Notorious,” a biopic about slain rapper Notorious B.I.G.

It was a portrayal that drew criticism from Lil’ Kim herself, who was quoted as saying Naughton’s performance was “dreadful.” Naughton, though surprised by the rapper’s comments, makes no apologies.

“I’m an up-and-coming actress who was just trying to bring this person to life as best as I can with the material I was given,” Naughton said. “I have so much respect for her and I do wish her reaction was different, but that’s life and you move on.”

That attitude serves as her life plan as well. “I’m just getting started. Like the song says, ‘You ain’t seen the best of me yet.’ ”

Look for her next starring with Ice Cube in “Lottery Ticket.”
