Kelly Clarkson Didn’t Recognise Herself on Airbrushed ‘Self’ Cover

Kelly Clarkson Didn’t Recognise Herself on Airbrushed ‘Self’ Cover

Kelly Brianne Clarkson (born April 24, 1982) is an American pop singer, songwriter, and occasional actress. Clarkson made her debut under RCA Records after she won the first season of the television series American Idol in 2002.

Clarkson has released four albums to date. Her debut album Thankful (2003), her multi-platinum second album Breakaway (2004), followed by My December (2007) and her latest album All I Ever Wanted (2009). Her first four albums have sold over 10.2 million copies in the United States.]

Eight of Clarkson’s singles became Top ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100. Her single, “My Life Would Suck Without You”, advanced from No. 97 to No. 1 on the Hot 100 in its first week of release, breaking the record for the largest leap to the top position in chart history.

In addition to her music, Clarkson had the lead role in the movie From Justin to Kelly (2003) along with Justin Guarini. She played Brenda Lee in the television drama American Dreams and appeared in the sitcom Reba. She also participated in a comedy skits on MADtv (2002) and Saturday Night Live (2005).

Clarkson has toured extensively worldwide as a solo act. After Clarkson’s appearance on the CMT Crossroads and her duet version of “Because of You” (2007) with Reba McEntire, they co-headlined the 2 Worlds 2 Voices Tour (2008).

Kelly Clarkson was stunned by her own appearance on the recent cover of Self magazine because the photograph was so heavily airbrushed, she barely recognised herself.

Clarkson has battled weight issues ever since she won talent show American Idol in 2002, and sparked a furore after appearing on the front of Self magazine’s September (09) issue looking suspiciously svelte.

The editor of the publication defended the decision to airbrush Clarkson, insisting they just wanted to show the singer looking her “best”.

Now Clarkson has opened up about the controversy, admitting she was shocked by the pictures – but accepts all photoshoots inevitably involve the airbrush.

She tells Britain’s Heat magazine, “The whole airbrushing thing has gone crazy. I was like, ‘Who is that on the cover of the magazine?’ They were obviously not happy with what I look like. I’m not being mean about myself, but I just found it funny. I think it’s just one of those things that people have got so used to doing that they don’t even think twice about it.”

Lil Wayne concert trek grosses $42 million

Lil Wayne concert trek grosses $42 million

Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. (born September 27, 1982), better known by his stage name Lil Wayne, is an American Grammy Award-winning rapper. Formerly a member of the rap group the Hot Boys, he joined the Cash Money Records collective as a teenager. Get It How U Live!, released in 1997, was Lil Wayne’s first album with Hot Boys, and Tha Block is Hot, his solo debut, came out in 1999.

After gaining fame with two other albums in the early 2000s, Lil Wayne reached higher popularity with 2004’s Tha Carter and its two subsequent albums Tha Carter II (2005) and Tha Carter III (2008). He earned various accolades following Tha Carter III, including being nominated for eight Grammy Awards. He will release a rock album titled Rebirth in 2009.

Music career

Hot Boys

In 1997, Lil Wayne joined the group Hot Boys along with rappers Juvenile, Turk, and B.G.; at age 15, Wayne was the youngest member at that time. Hot Boys’ debut album Get It How U Live! was released the same year, followed in 1999 by the group’s major-label debut Guerrilla Warfare, which reached #1 on the Billboard magazine Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and #5 on the Billboard 200. During their career, the Hot Boys had two charting singles, “We On Fire” from Get It How U Live! and “I Need a Hot Girl” from Guerrilla Warfare.Lil Wayne was also featured on Juvenile’s single “Back That Azz Up”, which reached #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #5 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks. Let ‘Em Burn, a compilation album of unreleased tracks recorded during 1999 and 2000, came out in 2003, several years after the group disbanded. It reached #3 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and #14 on the Billboard 200

Early solo career (1999-2003)

Lil Wayne’s debut solo album Tha Block Is Hot at age 17 featured significant contributions from the Hot Boys and went double platinum, climbing to #3 on the Billboard album charts. The album earned him a 1999 Source magazine award nomination for “Best New Artist”, and also became a Top Ten hit. The lead single was “Tha Block Is Hot”. After the release of Tha Block is Hot, Lil Wayne was featured on the single, “Bling Bling”, with B.G., Juvenile, Turk, and Big Tymers.

His 2000 follow-up album Lights Out failed to attain the level of success achieved by his debut but was certified gold by RIAA. Critics pointed to the lack of coherent narratives in his verses as evidence that he had yet to mature to the level of his fellow Hot Boys. The lead single was “Get Off The Corner” which was noticed for an improvement in lyrical content and style, it also received a music video. The second single which received less attention was “Shine” featuring The Hot Boys. Near the release of Lights Out, Lil Wayne was featured on the single, “1# Stunna” with Big Tymers and Juvenile, which rose to 24th place on the Hot Rap Tracks charts.

In 2001, Lil Wayne was shot in the chest in Florida after “some groupies” fired two shots through his tour bus window. He recalled the incident in 2008 interview: ‘It [the bullet] ‘didn’t go all the way in, ’cause the window slowed it down.’

Lil Wayne’s third album 500 Degreez, released in 2002, followed the format of his previous two, with significant contributions from the Hot Boys and Mannie Fresh. While certified Gold like its predecessor, it too failed to match the success of his debut. The title was a reference to the recently estranged Hot Boys member Juvenile’s recording, 400 Degreez. The lead single was “Way Of Life” which like the album failed to match the success of his previous singles. After the release of 500 Degreez, he was featured in the single “Neva Get Enuf” by 3LW.

The final numbers are in for Lil Wayne’s 2008-2009 North American touring, and it appears the rapper will have the highest grossing hip-hop outing of the year — and the most lucrative rap jaunt that Billboard has ever tracked.

Seventy-eight Lil Wayne headlining arena and amphitheater concerts in North America from December 14, 2008, through September 6, 2009, grossed about $42 million and drew nearly 804,000 fans, according to Shawn Gee, Lil Wayne’s tour producer and tour business manager.

“It’s definitely one of the biggest in the last couple of years,” Gee tells Billboard.com. “Our plan was to prove that Wayne was a viable headlining arena artist.”

The second highest-grossing rap tour that Billboard has tracked was Jay-Z’s 2008 jaunt with Mary J. Blige, which grossed $34.6 million and drew 310,694 concertgoers to 28 shows. Kanye West’s 2008 Glow In the Dark tour comes in third, having pulled in $30.8 million from 49 concerts that attracted 507,853 fans.

Other lucrative hip-hop tours in recent years include 2005’s Eminem/50 Cent Anger Management tour, which grossed $22.7 million from 23 shows; and a 50 Cent tour in 2003 that rang up nearly $23 million in ticket sales, much of it co-headlining with Jay-Z on the Roc-the-Mic tour.

Hip-hop tours rarely crack the Billboard year-end list of the top 25 grossing tours, but it’s likely that Lil Wayne’s 2009 trek will earn a spot on this year’s tally.

The concerts promoted Lil Wayne’s 2008 album, “Tha Carter III,” which has sold 3.2 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The rapper’s oft-delayed next album, “Rebirth,” is due November 24.

Although no specific touring plans are currently in the works, Gee believes that Lil Wayne will continue as an arena-sized headliner.

Vanessa Anne Hudgens (born December 14, 1988) is an American actress and singer. She is best known for her role as Gabriella Montez in the High School Musical film series. She pursued a solo music career and released her debut album V on September 26, 2006. The album debuted at number twenty four in the U.S.and was later certified Gold. Hudgens released her second album, Identified, on July 1, 2008 in the U.S. Her next film, Bandslam, was released in theaters on August 14, 2009, and she will appear in two upcoming films: Beastly in 2010, and Sucker Punch! in 2011.

Early life and career

Hudgens was born in Salinas, California, and lived all over the West Coast – from Oregon to Southern California – with her parents, Gina (née Guangco) and Gregory Hudgens, and a sister, Stella Hudgens.Hudgens and her family moved to Los Angeles after she won a role in a television commercial. Hudgens’s father is of Irish and Native American descent, and her mother, a native of Manila, is of Chinese-Spanish-Filipino descent. Both sets of Hudgens’ grandparents were musicians.

n early 2006, Hudgens’s breakout role has been playing the fictional character Gabriella Montez in the Disney Channel movie series High School Musical. With this performance, Hudgens and co-star Zac Efron won the 2006 “Best Chemistry” award at the Teen Choice AwarHollywood Recordsds for their roles. In the movie, she contributed five songs in the soundtrack. Hudgens established a music career under , citing Celine Dion and Alicia Keys as her major musical influences. On September 2006, the release of her debut album entitled V, charted on the Billboard 200 at number twenty-four on the chart, with 34,000 copies sold that week, with “Come Back to Me” the first single, and the follow-up was “Say OK”. V was certified Gold on February 27, 2007 and Billboard readers chose it as the seventh best album of the year. Hudgens was named Female Breakout Singer of the year at the 2007 Teen Choice Awards. She is also ambassador to Neutrogena products.

As promotion for the album, she was the opening act for The Cheetah Girls during their The Party’s Just Begun Tour.Later on, she participated in the nationwide High School Musical: The Concert tour in fall 2006, performing the songs from the soundtrack album as well as the three songs from her debut album.[19] She sang the duet “Still There For Me” with Corbin Bleu for his debut album. Her sophomore album, Identified, was released on July 1, 2008, selling more than 22,000 copies during the first week, debuting at #23 on the Billboard 200. At the same time, she went on the Identified Summer Tour to promote her albums in the U.S. and Mexico. She also performed at the 81st Academy Awards in a musical number with other young actors and singers.

Nude photos

On September 6, 2007, photos of Hudgens appeared online showing: two showing her posing in lingerie and another showing her nude. A statement from her publicist claims that the photo was taken privately and it was unfortunate that they were released on the internet.Hudgens later apologized, saying that she was “embarrassed over the situation” and regretted having “taken [those] photos.”

OK! magazine speculated that Hudgens would be dropped from High School Musical 3 due to the photos. The Walt Disney Company denied the reports, saying, “Vanessa has apologized for what was obviously a lapse in judgment. We hope she’s learned a valuable lesson.”

However, in August 2009, a new set of pictures showing Hudgens topless emerged on the internet. The latest batch of topless pictures are said to have been taken before the first nude photo scandal. Hudgens’ representatives have yet to make an official statement although lawyers have requested the removal of the pictures from the internet.

Contract lawsuit

Brian Schall sued Hudgens last 2007 for an alleged “breach of contract”; according to the suit, Schall claims he advanced costs and expenses on Hudgens’s behalf for her songwriting and recording career. In 2008, Hudgens was sued by Johnny Vieira, who claims he is owed a share of the 19-year-old’s advances, royalties and merchandising revenue in exchange for his management services. Vieira accuses Hudgens of abandoning her talent team as soon as she became a commercial name in the High School Musical era. In early May 2009, the case was settled.
