Mandy Moore The Next Big Disney Star?

Mandy Moore The Next Big Disney Star?

Amanda Leigh “Mandy” Moore (born April 10, 1984) is an American singer-songwriter, actress and fashion designer. She grew up in Florida. Moore became famous as a teenager in the late 1990s, after the release of her teen-oriented pop albums So Real, I Wanna Be with You, and Mandy Moore.

Moore subsequently branched out into a film career, starring in 2002’s A Walk to Remember and later appearing in the lead roles of other movies, such as Chasing Liberty, also aimed at teenage audiences.

Two of Moore’s later films, American Dreamz and Saved!, were satires. Her private life, including her relationships with tennis player Andy Roddick[1] as well as with actors Wilmer Valderrama and Zach Braff[3] became the subject of much discussion in the media. Her most recent album as of September 2009, Amanda Leigh, was released on May 26, 2009. Mandy Moore has sold more than 10 million records worldwide.

Early life

Moore was born in Nashua, New Hampshire, the daughter of Stacy, a former news reporter whom the Orlando Sentinel had once employed, and Donald “Don” Moore, a pilot for American Airlines. Moore’s father is of Irish and Cherokee descent, and her mother is of English and Jewish ancestry. Moore, who has two brothers, Scott Moore and Kyle Moore, grew up in Longwood, Florida, outside of Orlando, where the family moved shortly after her birth because of her father’s job as an airline pilot. She was raised in the Catholic religion, even though she is no longer a practicing Catholic, and attended Bishop Moore High School, a Catholic school in Orlando, as well as Lake Brantley High School in Altamonte Springs.

Moore’s interest in singing grew after seeing the musical Oklahoma! She was also encouraged to perform by her maternal grandmother, who was her inspiration. Some of Moore’s first public exposure occurred when she sang the national anthem at several Florida sporting events. She subsequently came to the attention of the head of the artists and repertoire department at Epic Records after his friend, a FedEx employee, overheard her as she sang at a recording studio.

Personal life

Moore dated Philippines-born singer/actor Billy Crawford for a “few months” when she was younger.

Moore dated actor Wilmer Valderrama for eighteen months between 2000 and 2002. In 2006, Valderrama appeared on The Howard Stern Show and detailed that he and Moore were each other’s “first loves” although he did not claim that their relationship was sexual, as was alleged by several media sources who misquoted his remarks. Moore later referred to Valderrama as a “good guy” and a “gentleman” although she has stated that his comments about their relationship were “utterly tacky”.

Moore began dating tennis star Andy Roddick in 2002; Roddick ended the relationship in March 2004.

In November 2004, Moore began dating Scrubs actor Zach Braff. Referring to Braff, Moore said that she likes “good Jewish boy(s)… with a sense of humor”. In 2006, the two were incorrectly reported to be engaged and broke up later in 2006.

In early 2007, media reports linked Moore to Adam Goldstein, known professionally as “DJ AM” though the two were reported to have ended their relationship in March 2007.

Also in 2007, she briefly dated actor/singer Greg Laswell

Mandy Moore is set to follow in the footsteps of Miley Cyrus and Vanessa Hudgens, by becoming the next big Disney star.

Mandy has signed on to voice ‘Rapunzel’ in a new 3D animated version of the classic fairytale!

The story has been modernized a little, whereby instead of being held captive in the tower for her entire life, Rapunzel escapes and “goes on the run with a bandit as her captor pursues them”.

Kim Cattrall turns clock back to Samantha’s days as a punk princess in Sex And The City sequel

Kim Cattrall turns clock back to Samantha’s days as a punk princess in Sex And The City sequel

Kim Victoria Cattrall (pronounced , rhyming with shall; born 21 August 1956) is a Canadian actress. She is known for her role as Samantha Jones in the HBO comedy/romance series Sex and the City, and for her leading roles in the 1980s films Police Academy, Big Trouble in Little China, and Mannequin.

Career

Cattrall began her career before graduating from high school in 1972, when she left Canada for the United States. There, she attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and upon her graduation signed a five-year movie deal with director Otto Preminger, making her film debut in Preminger’s Rosebud in 1975. A year later, Universal Studios bought out that contract and Cattrall became one of the last participants of the Universal Contract Player System. During her time with Universal, she guest-starred in numerous television programmes of varying style and genre. In 1979, she played Dr. Gabrielle White in The Incredible Hulk and would go down in TV Hulk lore as one of the few characters who knew David Banner was alive and was the Hulk. In a successful transition to cinema, Cattrall starred opposite Jack Lemmon in his Oscar-nominated movie Tribute in 1980. The following year, she starred in the critically acclaimed Ticket to Heaven. She also had a guest role in the TV Mini-Series Scruples.

In 1982, Cattrall played Miss Honeywell (Lassie) in Porky’s, followed two years later by a role in the original Police Academy. In 1985, she starred in three movies: Turk 182, City Limits and Hold-Up, the latter with French star Jean-Paul Belmondo. In 1986, she played Kurt Russell’s brainy flame in the action film Big Trouble in Little China. In 1987, her lead role in Mannequin proved a huge success with audiences. One of her best-known film roles is that of Lieutenant Valeris in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

In Sex And The City, Samantha Jones is known among her friends and numerous lovers for her wild, flamboyant personality and style.

And as actress Kim Cattrall filmed a flashback scene for the SATC film sequel in New York today, it seems Sam’s brave dress sense stems back to the Eighties.

The 53-year-old actress rolled back the years – and the good taste – as she donned a pair of snake-print, fishnet leggings, a yellow and purple leopard-print vest, a denim studded waistcoat and red PVC ankle boots.

Looking every inch the Eighties punk princess, Kim wore a bushy peroxide blonde wig and carried a retro Sony Walkman on her belt.

In the scene, the twentysomething Samantha narrowly misses getting run over by a brown car as she dashes over Fifth Avenue near the Bergdorf Goodman department store.

After the car screeches to a halt in front of her and the driver starts beeping, feisty Sam gives him the finger before continuing her journey.

And it appears the scene in a case of history repeating itself after Kim filmed an identical scene – set in present day – several days ago.

Samantha’s wild look is in stark contrast to Kim’s real-life appearance in the Eighties, who was an upcoming actress starring in Mannequin and Big Trouble In Little China at the time.

Whitney Houston debuts atop the U.S. pop charts

Whitney Elizabeth Houston (born August 9, 1963) is an American recording artist, actress, and former fashion model. A relative to several prominent soul singers, including her mother Cissy Houston, cousins Dee Dee and Dionne Warwick, and godmother Aretha Franklin, Houston began singing at her New Jersey church as a member of a junior gospel choir at age eleven. After she began performing alongside her mother at night clubs in the New York City area, she was discovered by Arista Records label head Clive Davis.

The onslaught of year-end releases has begun. Whitney Houston, perhaps the most talked-about comeback of the year, debuts atop the U.S. pop charts, returning to the No. 1 spot with her best sales week since Niselen SoundScan began tracking data back in 1991.

Her “I Look to You” sold 304,000 copies following its Aug. 31 release — a day earlier than the usual Tuesday release day in order to remain eligible for the upcoming Grammy Awards. Of course, Houston’s biggest hits came prior to 1991, but the sales number is a good sign for the artist in this depressed market. Even while not making the first week impact of an Eminem, the 304,000 tally is a significant bump over her first-week SoundScan numbers for 2002’s “Just Whitney,” which Billboard tells us bowed at the top after selling 205,000 copies.

But Houston is still going to need a hit for sustained sales success throughout the holiday season. Thus far, the title track hasn’t reached the top 50 on Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart, and her more recent single, the swift retro cut “Million Dollar Bill,” has yet to penetrate the big chart. Nevertheless, “I Look to You” is Houston’s first album to debut at No. 1 since 1987’s “Whitney” topped the chart when it was released.

A run-down of other chart notables below:

No. 2. Miley Cyrus, “The Time of Our Lives” EP. This seven-song CD, largely a promotional item for Miley’s clothing line with Wal-Mart, is proving to be a hot little seller. Fans and parents don’t seem turned off by Miley’s brief pole-dancing turn, as the set, in its first full week of release, sold 153,000 copies, giving it a total of 215,000 copies. There’s plenty of other Miley to go around on the chart too, as her soundtrack to “Hannah Montana: The Movie” is at No. 14, having sold more than 1.4 million copies to date.

No. 3. Trey Songz, “Ready.” The third album from the R&B artist-producer is the second-largest debut of the week. It sold more than 130,000 copies to enter at No. 3. It’s a slight sales bump from his 2007 effort,  “Trey Day,” in which the R. Kelly-like singer entered with 73,000 copies sold.

No. 4. Insane Clown Posse, “Bang! Pow! Boom!” Still around, and still selling consistently, the Insane Clown Posse brings out its faithful fan base with each release. The hip-hop knuckleheads from Detroit run one of the tightest businesses around, feeding its fan base with new products, ranging from board games to lunchboxes to its own festival (the semi-annual Gathering), and the latest effort even sold a little more than the act’s 2007 release, “The Tempest,” opening with 50,000 copies sold. “The Tempest,” for instance, bowed at No. 20 with closer to 33,000 first-week copies sold.

No. 5. Colbie Caillat, “Breakthrough.” The cheery singer-songwriter is able to stay at the top of the charts in her second week. After debuting last week at No. 1 with more than 105,000 copies sold, the local girl slips to No. 5, selling about 47,000 copies. That brings her to more than 153,000 for the two-week span. Her single “Fallin’ for You” was at No. 18 heading into the sales week.

No. 6. Chevelle, “Sci-Fi Crimes.” The band sold less than its 2007 effort, “Vena Sera,” did in its first week, yet had a much higher chart debut. Such is the way of the world, when any sort of act with any brand recognition can easily land a top 10 album (see Third Eye Blind). The Illinois-bred rockers sold 45,000 copies this week, down from the 62,000 first week copies “Vena Sera” sold when it landed on the charts.

Next week, things get a little confusing. With the media obsessed with Beatles sales numbers at the moment, expect plenty of pieces in the coming days discussing the continued life — or lack thereof — of the CD. Yet Billboard’s main chart will house only the boxed sets, as the individual reissues will be confined to the catalog charts, or Billboard’s “comprehensive” tally, which houses both catalog and new releases.
